Boris Ivanovich Shamanov was born in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, in 1931. From 1948 to 1956 he studied in the monumental and decorative arts department at the Mukhina Academy of Art under several distinguished professors.

He began exhibiting in 1958 and became a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia in 1960. Shamanov later became a People’s Artist of Russia and led the painting department at the St. Petersburg State Art and Industrial Academy.

He participated in more than 100 St. Petersburg, Russian, All-Union, and international exhibitions. His works are held by the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, regional museums, and private collections in Russia and abroad. He died in 2008.
