Daud Magomedovich Akhriev (b. 1959)

Daud Magomedovich Akhriev was born in Stalin-imposed exile in Kazakhstan and returned with his family to the Northern Caucasus when he was eight. He studied at art schools in Vladikavkaz and, after military service, entered the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg, where he studied from 1984 to 1992.

After graduation, Akhriev and American artist Melissa Hefferlin moved to the Chattanooga area. He has taught at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, lectured at the New York Academy of Figurative Art, completed commissions, and exhibited throughout the United States.

His paintings are represented in permanent collections including the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Repin Institute museum, Southern Adventist University, and other institutional and private collections.
