Grigori Andreevich Goncharov (1913–2001)

Grigori Andreevich Goncharov was born in Rossosh in the Voronezh region in 1913. He studied with Aleksei Buchkuri, a pupil of Ilya Repin, and worked closely with Igor Grabar and Evgeni Katsman. He began exhibiting in 1940.

During World War II, Goncharov served in the Russian army while continuing to paint, documenting the war and creating portraits of soldiers and officers. After returning to Voronezh, he developed paintings centered on history, labor, and peaceful life.

Goncharov became a member of the Artists’ Union of the USSR in 1950 and exhibited in regional, republican, and all-union exhibitions. He died in 2001. His works are held by the Kramskoi Art Museum and private collections in Russia and abroad.
